A new design of connecting rod (2) has been introduced. The new design of connecting rod has three grades. Refer to table 1 for more information. The new connecting rods have smaller fasteners (3) than the existing connecting rods (1) .
Adaptable To: The new connecting rod was introduced from engine serial number C6E23831.
Existing Part Number     | Grade     | New Part Number     | Grade     | Color     |
---|---|---|---|---|
276-7479     | F     | 331-0291     | R     | Red     |
276-7483     | J     | 331-0290     | G     | Green     |
276-7481     | L     | 331-0292     | B     | Blue     |
Note: The connecting rods (1) and (2) must not be used in the same engine.
New Procedure for Tightening the Fasteners for the Connecting Rod
The existing fasteners for the connecting rod have a torque of 70 N·m (52 lb ft). The new 10 mm fasteners have an initial torque of 40 N·m (30 lb ft). The new 10 mm fasteners must be tightened through an angle of 120 degrees. The fasteners must be used once.
