312C Excavator 3064 Engine Supplement Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install - Engine In Chassis Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.

1. Move the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

2. Disconnect the battery cable from the positive terminal of the battery. Move the battery cable away from the terminal.

3. Place an index mark on all of the electrical wires that are connected to the electric starting motor for installation purposes.

4. Remove the protective rubber boot. Remove nut (2) and two electrical wires.

5. Remove bolt (3) and plastic shield (1) .

6. Remove bolt (5) and the electrical wire.

7. Remove two nuts (4) and remove the electric starting motor.

Installation Procedure

1. Mount the electric starting motor with two nuts (4) .

2. Use bolt (5) to install the electrical wire. Tighten bolt (5) to a torque of 3.5 ± 1.0 N·m (31.0 ± 8.9 lb in).

3. Use bolt (3) to secure plastic shield (1) on the electric starting motor.

4. Use nut (2) to install two electrical wires on the electric starting motor. Tighten nut (2) to a torque of 11 ± 1 N·m (97 ± 9 lb in). Install the protective rubber boot over the two electrical wires.

5. Connect the battery cable to the positive terminal of the battery.

6. Move the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
