312C Excavator 3064 Engine Supplement Muffler - Remove and Install Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the hood assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Hood - Remove and Install".

1. Remove panel (1) .

2. Remove bolt (2) and the clip that secures the drain line for the muffler to the engine mount.

3. Remove the four nuts from the bottom side of two U-bolts (3). Remove the two U-bolts from muffler (4) .

4. Loosen bolts (5) on the clamp assembly. Remove six nuts (6) from pipe (7). Move pipe (7) away from the turbocharger and into the muffler. Remove the gasket that is used between pipe (7) and the turbocharger.

5. Remove the bolts and bracket (8). Remove muffler (4) .

6. Remove four bolts (10) and two mounting brackets (9) .

Installation procedure

Note: Use 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on all threaded connections.

1. Position two mounting brackets (9) in the machine. Install the mounting brackets with four bolts (10) .

2. Position muffler (4) on mounting brackets (9). Install bracket (8) .

3. Install the gasket that is used between pipe (7) and the turbocharger. Slide pipe (7) out of the muffler and toward the turbocharger. Use six nuts (6) to install pipe (6) to the turbocharger. Tighten bolts (5) on the clamp assembly.

4. Secure muffler (4) to the mounting brackets on the bottom side of the muffler with four nuts and two U-bolts (3) .

5. Install the drain line for the muffler to the engine mount with the clip and bolt (2) .

6. Install panel (1) .
