315C Excavator Machine Systems Bucket Linkage Bearings and Seals - Install Caterpillar

Installation Procedure

Note: Make sure that the bore in the stick and the bores in the link assembly are thoroughly clean and free of dirt. Make sure that the sleeve bearings and the lip seals are thoroughly clean and free of dirt.

1. Lower the temperature of the sleeve bearings for the stick at the pin joint for the bucket control linkage. Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to install the bearings in the stick. Install the bearings 7.5 ± 0.8 mm (0.30 ± 0.03 inch) below the outside surface of the stick.

2. Lower the temperature of the sleeve bearings for the closed end of the link assembly. Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to install the bearings in the link assembly. Install the bearings 7.5 ± 0.8 mm (0.03 ± 0.03 inch) below the outside surface of the link assembly.

3. Lower the temperature of the sleeve bearings for the open end of the link assembly. Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to install the bearings in the link assembly. Install the bearings 7.5 ± 0.8 mm (0.30 ± 0.03 inch) below the outside surface of the link assembly.

Note: Install lip seals with the sealing lip toward the outside of the pin bore. The sealing lip prevents dirt and debris from entering the pin bores.

4. Use Tooling (A) to install the lip seals in the link assembly. Install the lip seals with the sealing lip toward the outside of the pin bores. Install the lip seals until the seals make contact with the sleeve bearings.

5. Use Tooling (A) to install the lip seals in the stick. Install the lip seals with the sealing lip toward the outside of the pin bores. Install the lip seals until the seals make contact with the sleeve bearings.

End By: Install the bucket control linkage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Linkage - Install".
