Schematic of the"Advisor Display " Module |
This failure results in events that are logged against an ECM that can not be explained. There is no communication between the machine ECM and the "Advisor Display" module. The input for the display module is invalid. The ECM appears to work intermittently.
Test Step 1. INSPECT THE HARNESS CONNECTIONS.
- Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Make sure that the connectors are clean and tight.
- Check the connectors for proper mating.
- Check the wires at the connector.
- Check each wire for nicks or signs of abrasion in the insulation.
- Check for moisture at the connector.
- Check the connectors for dirty contacts or corroded contacts.
- Check each pin and each socket of the machine harness connectors.
Expected Result:
The machine harness connectors are tight and free of corrosion.
Results:
- OK - The machine harness connectors are tight and free of corrosion. Proceed to test step 2.
- NOT OK - The machine harness connectors are in need of repair.
Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
Test Step 2. CHECK FOR SHORTS TO GROUND.
- The disconnect switch remains in the OFF position.
- Disconnect the machine harness from the "Advisor Display" module.
- At the machine harness connector for the "Advisor Display" module, measure the resistance between contact 2 (wire 202-BK) and all the other contacts in the machine harness connector.
Expected Result:
The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.
Results:
- OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The harness circuit resistance is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
- NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The machine harness has failed.
Repair: There is a short circuit to ground in the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
Test Step 3. CHECK FOR A SHORT TO THE +BATTERY CIRCUIT.
- The machine harness for the display module remains disconnected from the display module. The disconnect switch remains in the OFF position.
- At the machine harness connector for the display module, measure the resistance between contact 1 (wire 133-OR) and frame ground.
Expected Result:
The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.
Results:
- OK - The harness circuit resistance is correct. Proceed to test step 4.
- NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The machine harness has failed.
Repair: There is a short between the +battery circuit and the circuit in the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
Test Step 4. CHECK FOR AN OPEN HARNESS.
- The disconnect switch remains in the OFF position.
- The machine harness for the display module remains disconnected from the display module.
- Check the continuity of all the signals and wires of the "Advisor Display" module. Use the diagram at the start of this document.
Expected Result:
The resistance measures less than 5 ohms.
Results:
- OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The circuit in the machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step 5.
- NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 Ohms. The machine harness has failed.
Repair: The circuit is open in the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
Test Step 5. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL ACTIVE.
- Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
- Reconnect all harness connectors.
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Operate the machine.
- Determine if the CID 1037 FMI 02 is active.
Expected Result:
The CID 1037 FMI 02 is active.
Results:
- YES - The CID 1037 FMI 02 is active. The problem has not been corrected.
Repair: It is unlikely that the machine ECM or the "Advisor Display" module have failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the "Advisor Display" module or the ECM. See Troubleshooting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
STOP
- NO - The CID 1037 FMI 02 is not active. The problem does not exist at this time.
Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.
STOP
