Machine Preparation

    Engine speed dial

  1. Set the engine speed dial at "10".

  2. Lower the left console.

  3. Position the machine on level ground. Check the visibility and adjust the mirrors for the best vision close to the machine.

  4. Fully depress the service brake pedal until the service brake pedal locks mechanically.

  5. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 46° to 60° C (115° to 140° F).

  6. Lower the stabilizers and the blade tip.

  7. Fully extend the bucket cylinder and place the bucket on the ground.

  8. Stop the engine.

  9. Release pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

  10. Raise the left console.

  11. Attach tooling (F) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach an air supply hose onto the assembly. Apply 276 to 414 kPa (40 to 60 psi). This procedure will pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  12. Install tooling (D) in accordance with the flow meter tool layout to the diverter valves. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 3.

Note: If the work that is being tested has a cylinder, make sure that head end (A-side) of the cylinder is connected to the diverter valve (A-side) on the left side of the stick.

  13. Open diverter valves that are mounted on each side of the stick.

  14. Remove tooling (F) from the hydraulic tank.

  15. Verify that the correct type of work tool has been selected during the tool programming.

Note: Work tools that rotate perform differently than work tools with cylinders.

Test and Adjust Procedure

  1. Start the engine.

  2. Set the engine speed dial at "10".

  3. Lower the left console.

  6. Select the hydraulic modulation mode as aggressive. Press the lower front switch on the left joystick to select the hydraulic modulation mode.

  7. The air conditioning should be turned off for the following test.

    ------ WARNING! ------

To prevent personal injury or equipment damage from failure of the hydraulic test equipment or associated circuit components because of blocked pump flow, make sure that the test equipment valves are fully open before starting the engine.

    ------ WARNING! ------

To prevent personal injury and/or equipment damage from failed lines or components while the hydraulic test equipment is returned to the open flow position, slowly open the hydraulic test equipment valve while monitoring the pump flow.

If pump flow does not increase as the valve is opened, shut the engine off and determine what is preventing the pump from upstroking.

  8. For flow "A⇒B", move thumb slider on the left joystick or the hammer pedal to the maximum left position. For flow "B⇒A", move thumb slider on the left joystick or the hammer pedal to the maximum right position.

  9. If the flow is not within specification, proceed to the "Adjust Procedure".

Adjust Procedure

  1. If the flow is too high or too low, change the value in the "Tool Configuration" menu.

Note: Inorder to check the maximum flow, set the maximum value and compare the flow on the hydraulic tester to the specification that is listed in Table 1.
