Changes Implemented In The Flash File

Service Tool Requirement

ET2015C or later required for this software release.

New Features

SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction)

If there are emergency situations, EPA allows the override of SCR Inducements. This feature can be enabled through the service tool. Once enabled (factory password required), this feature provides 120 hours of inducement free operation. The override timer can be activated with either a physical switch (J1-22 on A5E2) or ET service tool.

CRS Lean Burn Strategy

Lean burn strategy has been added to startup mode (SM) and maintenance timer (MTB) regens. This reduces the potential of regen issues to a sooted up flame temp sensor.

Enhancements To Existing Features

Eliminate Key Off Cycle -7 False Trip

Issue

-7 is not persistent active during key cycle.

Resolution

Make injector not responding code persistent active over key cycle for better troubleshooting.

Change -7 Tripping Thresholds

Issue

-7 code is tripped excessively and causes dealers to replace injectors when the error code is found.

Resolution

Improved sensitivity to the -7 code to reduce false trip and unnecessary injector changes.

-499 Code False Trip

Issue

-499 code is false tripping. This drives replacement of the high-pressure pump. High volume of returned pumps is showing no fault found.

Resolution

Changed sensitivity and severity for the diagnostic code E499 to eliminate false trips.

SCR Inducement Faults Snapshot

Issue

Operator unable to use tool for troubleshooting.

Resolution

Removed snapshot support for SCR inducement faults.

DEF Quality Detection

Issue

DEF quality sensor unable to detect degraded concentration under certain conditions.

Resolution

Timer was changed to meet the sampling requirements.

Active Regeneration Device (ARD) Nozzle Heater Diagnostic

Issue

Code 3182-4 Aftertreatment #1 Fuel Injector #1 Heater : Voltage Below Normal clears on key cycle and does not remain an active diagnostic for troubleshooting issue.

Resolution

Changed code to be persistent active when tripped for better troubleshooting.

Display Names Data Health Monitor

Issue

ECM #1 and ECM #2 is being displayed and causing confusion during troubleshooting.

Resolution

Updated ECM columns to read device ID's.

Fixes

Hot Shutdown Factory Password

Issue

During hot shutdown, event drives level three code is causing a factory password to clear. The results from the level three code causes long down time for customers.

Resolution

Changed Hot Shutdown under certain circumstance to be a level 1 which requires no factory passwords.

High DEF Pressure Fault During Prime

Issue

False tripping code 4334-16 Aftertreatment #1 DEF #1 Pressure (absolute) : High - moderate severity (2) during prime.

Resolution

Updated to eliminate false trips.

DEF Tank & Coolant Temperature Kick Out

Issue

During aftertreatment function test immediately aborts if conditions are not met.

Resolution

Changed initiate requirements to allow preconditions of coolant temperature to meet the DEF conditions. If DEF conditions do not meet the aftertreatment function, the test will abort.

AVSpare Regeneration System (CRS) Nozzle Heater

Issue

CRS nozzle heater shortens the cycle was causing heater nozzle plugging.

Resolution

CRS nozzle heater timer resets and timer durations have been updated to correct this issue.

Post Regen Main fuel Spritz

Issue

Popping sound is noticed during post regeneration main fuel spritz.

Resolution

Spark has been disabled during main fuel spritz action.

Maintenance Timer (MTB)

Issue

Forced MTB regenerations with auto regeneration capability disabled on application are unable to reset the regeneration trigger request. This is leading subsequent regeneration request without trigger getting reset. This can lead to operator confusion in the field.

Resolution

Logic updated to go from MTB to Non-MTB at the end of the regeneration, which will allow reset.

Low Battery Voltage Diagnostic

Issue

False trip battery diagnostic during operator forced shutdown. This creates derate without active fault code.

Resolution

Diagnostic was improved to reduce false tripping and derate issue.

DPF #1 Intake Pressure Sensor Out of Calibration

Issue

False trip code 3464-13 under cold ambient temperature.

Resolution

Changed minimum DPF inlet temperature condition set point for DPF Intake Pressure Sensor Code 3465-13.

SCR Inducement Def Control Unit Faults

Issue

DCU faults were considered tampering faults which caused downtime and loss of productivity.

Resolution

DCU faults have been categorized into tampering and no-tampering. This new change will trigger final inducement in 20 hours and is applicable for EPA regulations.

NOx Sensor J1939 Datalink Faults

Issue

Logged 5856-9 SAE J1939 Data Link #3: Abnormal Update Rate being logged.

Resolution

Changed ECM request for NOx sensor reading to match J1939 requests.

Fuel Pressure Sensor False Trip

Issue

During sudden engine speed drops or key cycles the after fuel filter pressure sensor experiences momentary vacuum that created a false trip of 460-21 code.

Resolution

Debounce time was extended to allow sensor recover.

Low Fuel Pressure Events

Issue

Level 1 low fuel pressure events are unavailable for DOC protection.

Resolution

Added Level 1 low fuel pressure event.

Low EGR Delta Pressure Event

Issue

False during on Low EGR delta P.

Resolution

Improved diagnostics for EGR absolute pressure sensor and EGR differential pressure sensor.

EGR (ABS) & (DP) Sensor out of Calibration

Issue

EGR Absolute (ABS) and EGR Differential Pressure false tripping in cold ambient conditions.

Resolution

Changed minimum conditions at cold ambient and zero engine speed to reduce false tripping.

Level 1 Coolant Derate

Issue

Level 1 Coolant Temperature event comes up when EGR protection derates occur.

Resolution

Separated EGR derates from PMS level 1 trip point. EGR derate of 20% is applied if coolant temperature increase to 109° C (228° F).
