Use control levers to lift attachment (1) off the ground and raise the stabilizers (2).
Watch pressure gauge (3) until the air pressure has increased to 6.2 bar. Release the parking brake and the warning light (4) should go out.
Release the swing axle locking mechanism and the locked service brake if engaged. Lock the upper carriage.
Put the speed selector for the manual gearbox (5) into the desired gear position - high or low gear.
Forward - low gear.
Rearward - high gear.
In order to use the speed selector, lift the shift lock (above the speed selector) with the left hand. This shift lock should prevent simultaneous shifting of the transmission and the drive control lever.

Shift transmission from high to low gear or low to high gear only when the machine is COMPLETELY STOPPED. Shifting with machine moving will damage the hydraulic drive motor and the transmission. |
Later machines have a blue light in the center of the steering wheel. The light goes on when the machine enters the reverse steering mode (boom towards rear axle) and alerts operator that steering is reversed.
The light goes off when forward steering mode is resumed (boom over steering axle).
Move the drive control lever into neutral position first, and then use service brake to stop machine completely.

An automatically operating brake valve is only operable during forward travel (cabover steering axles). When traveling down a grade make use of the braking action of the brake valve. Do not constantly apply the service brake or rapid brake wear can result. When traveling down a grade of more than 12%, use low gear. Move drive control lever to neutral, bring machine to complete stop with service brake. Shift transmission to low gear and start traveling downhill. When excavating, the speed selector must remain in one of the two positions (high gear or low gear). |
Locking the Stabilizers
Before traveling on public roads, the stabilizers must be positively secured on both sides in their raised position by means of retainers. Turn the ground pads in.
Securing the Boom Cylinders (Fig. 579)
After placing the attachment in the traveling position, the boom cylinders must be secured by closing the shutoff valve.

Traveling position for the attachment means that the boom is attached in its rearmost position, the stick is retracted so that the maximum outreach of the attachment is no more than 3.5 m (11 ft) from the center of the steering axle, and the total height of 4 m (13 ft) is not exceeded. Always road the machine with the boom over the steering axle. When the boom is over the rear axle, the steering is reversed and there is no hydraulic retarding. Travel with the boom over the rear axle should be limited to short distances when dozing and low speed range. Observe provisions in the general road traveling license. |
