The ECM is used for the control system. Based on engine parameters, the control system signals the pump to deliver the proper amount of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to the exhaust stream.
The engine aftertreatment system utilizes sensors to monitor operating conditions and to provide input and feedback for the dosing control system. Included sensors are temperature, pressure differential, and NOx. The temperature sensor provides temperature feedback to the dosing control system. The dosing does not start before the catalytic converter has reached the required temperature for the reaction. The delta pressure sensor monitors the back pressure and is used as a diagnostic for DOC substrate blockage. The NOx sensor detects NOx levels and provides closed loop feedback to the control system. The control system adjusts the flow of DEF delivered to the exhaust stream.
