The percentage of sulfur in the fuel will affect the engine oil recommendations. If the fuel has over 0.5% sulfur content, the engine oil must have a TBN of 20 times the percentage of fuel sulfur (TBN as measured by the ASTM D-2896 method). If the sulfur content is greater than 1.5%, consult your AVSpare dealer for correct engine oil recommendations.
Fuel sulfur is chemically changed during combustion to form sulfuric acid. The acid chemically attacks metal surfaces and causes corrosive wear. Higher engine oil TBN values are essential to minimize corrosive wear.
Change Oil
Change oil with warm engine only.
Remove drain plug (Fig. 534) from engine crankcase and allow the oil to drain.
Install drain plug. Fill the crankcase with oil through filler (Fig. 779) until oil level reaches the upper mark on dipstick.
Start the engine and let it turn for a short time. Stop the engine and check oil level again.
Change Filter Cartridge
Loosen filter (1, Fig. 536) with a filter strap wrench or screwdriver and remove by hand.
Coat the rubber seal of the new filter with clean engine oil. Install the new filter by hand. When the seal contacts the base, tighten an additional 1/2 turn.
Follow the "Operation" Guide of the engine manufacturer.
Swing Gear Brake
Check Brake Fluid level
The brake fluid container is situated in the cab at the right hand front side. The level of the brake fluid should be no more than 10 mm (.38 inch) below the upper edge of the container.
Fan Belt
Check and/or Adjust
Refer to the operating instructions of engine manufacturer (Fig. 537).
