Engine Valve Lash

To prevent possible injury, do not use the starter motor to turn the flywheel. Hot engine components can cause burns. Allow additional time for the engine to cool before measuring valve clearance. |

Measure the valve lash with the engine stopped. To obtain an accurate measurement, allow at least 20 minutes for the valves to cool to engine cylinder head and block temperature. |
INLET VALVE LASH - 0.38 mm (.015 inch)
EXHAUST VALVE LASH - 0.64 mm (.025 inch)
Resetting the valve lash is not necessary if the lash is within 0.08 mm (.003 inch) of the clearance shown above.
Use AVSpare Part Number 5P7307 Engine Turning Tool to turn the flywheel.

Cooling System Coolant
Change the Coolant

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |

If cooling system conditioner has been added as recommended, the coolant change period can be extended to every 4000 service hours or every two years.

All water is corrosive at engine operating temperature. Use AVSpare Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, to treat either plain water or ethylene glycol solution. Do not use AVSpare Cooling System Conditioner or Coolant Conditioner Elements if Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant is used. Follow the instructions with the Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant. Flush the cooling system if it is contaminated, if the engine overheats, or if foaming is observed in the radiator. See "Cooling System" in "When Required." If the machine is shipped to, or stored in, an area with below freezing temperatures, the cooling system must be protected to the lowest expected outside temperature with antifreeze, or drained completely. |
- 1. With the machine level, and the engine stopped and cool, open the left side rear acess door. Pull the latch and open the radiator cap access door.
- 2. Remove the radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure.
- 3. Open the drain valve. Allow the coolant to drain.
- 4. Remove the coolant drain plug from the left side of the block. Allow the coolant to drain.
- 5. Clean and install the plug. Close the drain valve.
- 6. Mix antifreeze and fill water to provide protection to the lowest expected outside temperature.
- 7. To help avoid air locks, add coolant slowly at 19 liters (5 U.S. gal.) or less per minute. See "Refill Capacities."
- 8. Add 1.9 liter (2 qt.) of AVSpare Cooling System Conditioner or equivalent, to provide corrosion protection.
- 9. Bring the coolant level to within 1 cm (1/2 inch) of the bottom of the fill pipe.
- 10. Start and operate the engine with the radiator cap off. After the level stabilizes, add coolant, if necessary.
- 11. Clean the cap. Replace the cap if the gasket is damaged. Install the cap.
Hydraulic System
Change Oil and Wash Filler Strainer

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. |

An improper hydraulic oil level can result in machine damage. |
- 1. Open the front access door on the right side.
- 2. Pull the latch to open filler cap access cover.
- 3. Remove the hydraulic tank fill cap slowly to relieve pressure in the tank.
- 4. The hydraulic tank oil drain valve is located on the right side of the machine under the upper structure.
- 5. Remove the oil drain valve plug.
- 6. Install a pipe and hose to open drain valve. Drain into a container.
- 7. Change the hydraulic oil filter elements. See "Hydraulic System" at "Every 500 Service Hours or 3 Months."
- 8. Remove the pipe to close the drain valve. Clean and install the plug.
- 9. Inspect the hydraulic suction hoses and clamps. Replace hoses that are swollen or cracked. Tighten all hose clamps to 11 N·m (100 lb in).
- 10. Remove the spring lockring with pliers.
- 11. Remove the hydraulic tank oil fill strainer.
Wash the strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent and allow to dry. Install the strainer and lockring.
- 12. Fill the hydraulic tank with oil. See "Refill Capacities." Replace the cap seal if it is damaged. Clean and install the cap.
- 13. Start the engine and operate it at LOW IDLE to fill the filters. Check for leaks. Cycle all hydraulic equipment.
- 14. With the machine level, position the equipment as shown.
If backhoe equipped, position the bucket flat on the ground with the stick cylinder fully extended.
If clamshell equipped, position the bucket open on the ground with the stick cylinder fully extended.
- 15. Stop the engine. Check the hydraulic oil level.
- 16. Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks on the sight gauge.
- 17. Close and secure the access cover and door.
Swing Gear Housing
Check Lubricant Level
- 1. Remove two bolts and the cover.
- 2. Remove the plug.
- 3. Inspect the grease level. Grease should be approximately 1 inch above the bottom of the pan and should be visible on the gear teeth. Rotate the house 360°, stopping at 45° intervals to inspect grease level.
If grease is contaminated and/or discolored, contact your AVSpare dealer.
- 4. Install the plug.
- 5. Install the cover.
Drain water
Drain housing prior to freezing weather or at least once a year. Access is gained from under machine.
Remove 4 bolts and drain cover. Allow moisture and sediment to drain. Install cover.
