Steering Wheel - Turn the steering wheel in the direction you wish the machine to travel. Steering direction will be reversed when steering wheel is over the fixed axles.
Brake Pedal (1.) - Push the brake pedal down to apply the brakes and slow or stop the machine.
Use the brakes on a downgrade to keep the engine from overspeeding.
Brake Pedal (2.) - Release the brakes to allow the machine to move, or increase ground speed.
Do not use the brake pedal as foot rests to avoid early brake wear or damage.
Parking Brake Locked - Pull the lever back until it engages into a detent to engage the brakes.
The parking brake indicator light (1) will come on when the parking brake is applied.
The machine will stop quickly, if the lever is pulled back while moving.
Parking Brake Unlocked - Pull lever back slightly and lift out of detent. Push the lever forward to release the brakes and allow machine movement.
Parking/Service Brake and Axle Stability Switch
Locked - Move the toggle switch to the left (1) to stop any wheel movement.
Unlocked - Move the toggle switch to the right (2) to allow wheel movement.
Axle Stability Switch
Locked - Move the toggle switch to the right (1) for axle stabilizer (excavation operation).
Unlocked - Move the toggle switch to the left (2) to allow axle swing movement (travel operation).
Governor Control Lever
Governor Control Lever - Controls the engine speed (rpm).
Increase - Move the lever back (1) to increase the engine speed.
Decrease - Move the lever forward (2) to decrease the engine speed.
Turn the key off on Perkins Engine to stop the engine.
Deutz Engine Only - Pull the detent knob (1) up and move the governor lever (2) all the way forward to stop the engine.
Hydraulic Activation Control
Hydraulic Functions Disengaged - Move all controls to the hold position. Lift the lever (1) to raise the armrest.
When armrest is up, all hydraulic and travel operations are inoperable except steering and those controls in use.
Hydraulic Functions Engaged - Push the armrest down and make sure it is all the way into the latch.
Hydraulics are now operational.
Directional Control Lever
The hydraulic activation armrest must be locked in the down position in order to operate any hydraulics.
Forward (1.) - Move the lever forward to travel forward. The further forward the lever is moved, the faster the machine will travel.
Neutral (2.) - Move the lever to neutral to start the engine and before moving in a different direction. Also, move to neutral before engaging the service brake, to completely stop the machine.
Engage the parking brake to prevent any machine movement.
Reverse (3.) - Move the lever back, to travel to the rear. The further back the lever is moved, the faster the machine will travel.
Transmission Speed Switches
Low or High Gear Range - Selection of a gear range is required to travel. The low or high indicator light will light and stay on until the opposite switch is pushed down. The transmission can be shifted to HIGH during travel.
Low - Push the switch (1) down and the low gear range indicator light (2) will light.
High - Push the switch (3) down and the high gear range indicator light (4) will light.
When shifting from high to low during travel, a speed control device prevents high speed shifts. The shift will not be made until the speed is sufficiently reduced.
An automatic overspeed valve limits speed while going downhill in FORWARD gear only. Applying the service brake to reduce engine speed is also necessary.
Continuous service brake application will wear brakes above normal use.
Creeper Speed Switch
Creeper Speed - Push the switch down to engage when a very slow speed is necessary. The indicator in the switch will light when the creep speed is on. Switch off when not necessary.
Engage creep speed only when the machine is stopped. Damage to the transmission could result if not observed.
Creep speed can be engaged when in low or high gear range.
Swing Brake Pedal
Brake - Push the pedal (1) down to slow, or down to stop the upper structure from rotating.
Do not use the swing brake pedal and the swing control lever at the same time.
Brake Lock Detent - Push the brake pedal (1) down past the normal braking position and the pedal will be held down by a detent.
Push down on the detent (2) and the brake pedal will be released.
Boom Cylinder Lock
Locked (1.) - Move the lever vertically to shut off the hydraulic control for the boom. When traveling, always shut off hydraulics after machine is ready for road travel. Observe all local regulations before traveling. Retracting of the boom could also be necessary.
Unlocked (2.) - Move the lever horizontally to activate boom hydraulics after traveling.
Swing Lock Pin
Engage the pin only when the upper structure is aligned with the lower carriage.
Do not attempt to engage the pin when the upper structure is rotating.
Pin Engaged - Turn the knob and push down. The upper structure will not swing when the control lever is down.
Pin Disengaged - The upper structure can swing when the lever is up and in the detent.
