Walk-Around Inspection

Inspect the Machine

For your own protection and maximum service life of the machine, make a thorough walk-around inspection before mounting the machine to start the engine.

Look around and under the machine for such items as loose bolts, trash buildup, oil or coolant leaks. Inspect the condition of the implements and hydraulic components.

1. Inspect the air filter element indicator. Change the filter element when the red zone appears in the indicator.

2. Inspect the engine precleaner screen for dirt buildup. Clean when any dirt has accumulated.

3. Inspect the implements, cylinders and linkage for damage or excessive wear. Repair if damaged.

4. Inspect the lights for broken bulbs and lenses. Replace if broken.

5. Inspect and remove any trash buildup in the engine compartment.
6. Inspect the cooling system (Perkins Engine) for leaks, faulty hoses and trash buildup. Correct any leaks and remove any trash from radiator.

7. Inspect the steps, walkways and handholds for their condition and cleanliness. Inspect the Falling Object Protective Structure (FOPS) for damage. Repair if necessary. Tighten any loose FOPS bolts.

8. Inspect the hydraulic system for leaks. Inspect the tank, hoses, tubes, plugs, joints and fittings. Correct any leaks.

9. Inspect the final drive area for leaks. Check the oil level if leakage is noticed.

10. Be sure the covers and guards are firmly in place. Inspect for damage.
11. Inspect the transmission area for leaks. Correct any leaks.

12. Inspect the track for damage, looseness and excessive wear. Correct if needed.

13. Inspect the operator's compartment for cleanliness. Keep it clean.
14. Inspect the instrument panel for broken gauges and indicator lights. Replace if broken.

------ WARNING! ------

Always check the condition of the seat belt and mounting hardware before operating the machine. Personal injury could occur if belt failed.

------WARNING!--------
15. Inspect the seat belt and mounting hardware.

Engine Crankcase

Measure the Oil Level

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

The crankcase oil level dipstick is located under the upper access cover on the engine. Unlatch and raise the access cover. Unlatch and open the side access cover for Deutz oil fill.

Deutz Engine

Maintain the oil level to the top mark on the dipstick.

1. Remove the oil fill cap if necessary to add oil. Add oil as required.

2. Clean and install the cap.

3. Check the dipstick to verify the oil level.
4. Close and latch all covers.

Perkins Engine

Maintain the oil level to the top mark on the dipstick.

1. Remove the oil fill cap if necessary to add oil. Add oil as required.
2. Clean and install the cap.

3. Check the dipstick to verify the oil level.
4. Close and latch all covers.

Backhoe Linkage

Lubricate the Fittings

Lubricate the three fittings located at the main boom mounting.

Lubricate the two fittings on the boom lift cylinder base.

Lubricate the four fittings in the bucket area.

Lubricate the eight fittings on the boom and stick area. Lower the boom to the ground for access.

Radiator - Perkins Engine

Check the Coolant Level

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

------WARNING!--------

Remove the access cover.

1. Open the coolant fill cap slowly to relieve any pressure.

Inspect the condition of the cap and gasket. Replace the cap if damaged.

Location of cap could be on top depending on which machine you have.

2. Maintain the coolant 15 mm (.62 inch) below the top of the fill tube.
3. Install the radiator cap.
4. Install the access cover.

Hydraulic Tank

Check the Oil Level

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.

Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

------WARNING!--------

NOTICE

Never remove the cap from the implement hydraulic tank if the oil is hot. Air can enter the system and cause pump damage.

The hydraulic oil tank is located on the right side of the machine.

Boom, stick and bucket cylinders must be fully extended and the bucket on the ground as shown.

If clamshell equipped; open clamshell with boom and stick fully extended and the clamshell on the ground.

1. Maintain the oil level to the middle of the upper sight gauge.

2. Remove the oil fill plug (1) and add oil if necessary.

NOTE: When adding oil, it could be necessary to loosen or remove the breather.

3. Clean and install the plug.

Fuel Tank

Drain the Moisture and Sediment

Open the drain valve located under the fuel tank and allow the moisture and sediment to drain into a container. Close the drain valve.

Fill Fuel Tank

Fuel can be added to the tank by removing fuel fill cap on top of tank or by refueling pump.

1. Open the side engine access cover. Remove the cap and attach the fuel fill hose to coupling.
2. Pull the knob out to start pump. Push to stop. Remove the hose and install the cap. Close the access cover.
