Change the Bucket Tips

Retainer pins, when struck with force, can fly out and cause injury to nearby people. Make sure the area is clear of people when driving retainer pins. To avoid injury to your eyes, wear protective glasses when striking a retainer pin. |

Replace the bucket tip when worn close to shank.
- 1. Raise and support the bucket.
- 2. Drive the pin out from the tip. Remove the pin retainer and the tip.
- 3. Clean the shank pin retainer and pin.
- 4. Install the pin retainer and the new tip.
- 5. Install the pin from the same side as the pin retainer was installed.
- 6. Raise the bucket and remove the support.
- 7. Lower the bucket to the ground.
Windshield Wipers and Washer
Replace Blades - Add Solvent

Use any commercially available nonfreezing window washer solvent, when operating in freezing temperatures. |
Inspect the windshield wiper blade. Replace if it is worn or damaged, or if streaking occurs.
- 1. Remove the window washer solvent fill cap located behind the cab.
- 2. Fill with window washer solvent.
- 3. Install the fill cap.
Fuses
Replace if Element Separates
Fuse panel is located in cab below instrument panel. Remove the panel for fuse access.

Always replace fuses with ones of the correct ampere rating. |
Fuse - Replace any fuse if the element is broken and/or the circuit it is in does not function.
Engine Air Intake
Change the Filter Elements

Pressure air can cause personal injury. When using pressure air for cleaning, wear a protective face shield, protective clothing and protective shoes. The maximum air pressure must be below 205 kPa (30 psi) for cleaning purposes. |

Service the air cleaner only with the engine stopped. Change the air filters when the indicator shows red or the exhaust smoke is black. Graduated lines on the indicator show approximately when elements will need replacing. |
Change the Primary Filter Element
- 1. Remove the filter element cover.
- 2. Remove the primary filter element.
- 3. Clean the inside of the air cleaner housing with a clean cloth.
- 4. Clean the primary filter element. See "Cleaning Primary Filter Elements."
- 5. Install a clean primary filter element.
- 6. Install the cover. Tighten the retaining bolt finger tight. Do not use a tool to tighten the bolt.
- 7. Reset the filter indicator by pushing in the reset button.
- 8. Start the engine.
If the indicator shows red, or the exhaust smoke is still black after installation of a primary filter element that has been cleaned six times, change to another clean filter element.
The filter element can be cleaned a maximum of six times. Replace the primary element after it has been cleaned six times or at least once a year.
If the indicator shows red shortly after installation of a clean primary filter element, change the secondary filter element.
Change Secondary Filter Element

Always replace the secondary filter element. Never attempt to reuse it by cleaning. |
The secondary filter element should be replaced at the time the primary element is serviced for the third time.
The secondary filter element should also be replaced if the indicator shows red after installation of a clean primary element, or if the exhaust smoke is still black.
- 1. Remove the cover and the primary filter element.
- 2. Clean the inside of the housing.
- 3. Remove the retainer that holds the secondary filter element to the housing.
- 4. Remove the filter element.
- 5. Install a new secondary filter element and retainer.
- 6. Install the primary filter element and the cover. Tighten the cover bolt finger tight only.
- 7. Push the filter indicator reset button in.
Cleaning Primary Filter Elements

Do not clean the filter elements by bumping or tapping them. Inspect the filter elements after cleaning. Do not use a filter element with damaged pleats, gaskets or seals. When cleaning with pressure air, use 205 kPa (30 psi) maximum pressure to prevent filter element damage. |
Typical Examples Shown
When cleaning with pressure water, use 280 kPa (40 psi) maximum pressure to prevent filter element damage.
Filter elements can be cleaned with pressure air, pressure water, or detergent.
Pressure Air - 205 kPa (30 psi) Maximum
- 1. Direct air along pleats inside and outside of filter element. Direct air along pleats inside of filter element.
- 2. Inspect the filter element after cleaning.
Pressure Water - 280 kPa (40 psi) Maximum
- 1. Direct the water along the inside and outside of the pleats.
- 2. Air dry and inspect the element.
Detergent
- 1. Wash the filter element in warm water and nonsudsing household detergent.
- 2. Rinse thoroughly with clean water, air dry and inspect the filter element.
Inspect the Filter Element
- 1. Insert a light inside a dry and cleaned filter element. Discard any filter element with rips or tears.
- 2. Wrap and store the clean filter elements in a clean, dry place.
Cooling System Relief Cap - Perkins Engine
Replace When Faulty

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |

Remove the access cover.
- 1. Remove the coolant fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cap location could be different, depending on which machine you have.
- 2. Replace the fill cap when the cooling system does not maintain pressure or coolant loss is noticed.
- 3. Install the coolant fill cap.
- 4. Install the access cover.
Cab Door Hinges
Lubricate the Fittings
Lubricate the fittings on each hinge to allow the door to open and close easier.
Final Drives
Check Oil Level
- 1. Remove the oil fill/level plug. Plug location will vary, depending on your machine.
- 2. Add oil if necessary to bring oil level up to bottom of plug hole.
- 3. Check the oil on the other final drive if leaks are present.
Tracks
Check the Adjustment

Grease is under high pressure. Grease coming out of the relief valve under pressure can penetrate the body causing injury or death. Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened. Loosen the relief valve three turns maximum. |

The track tension is set so that the lower part sags by 5 to 6 cm (2 to 2.38 inch) (as shown in track photo) if the machine is raised. To test the track tension, lift the machine by means of the attachment so that the lower part of the track hangs down.
The track tension has to be set as required by the current operating conditions. Use as slack a track as possible if the soil is heavy.
Tighten the Track
Raise the machine as described. Add grease through the high pressure fittings with grease only until the correct track tension is reached.
Loosen the Track
Loosen the high pressure fitting carefully (three turns maximum) until grease is allowed to emerge from the cylinder through the fitting.
Retighten the high pressure fitting when the desired track tension is reached.
