Fuel Tank

Flush

The fuel tank is mounted on the upper carriage, directly behind the left side of the operator's cab.

Close the fuel shutoff valves (Fig. 544), open tank filler cap (on top of the fuel tank) and the drain valve (Fig. 545). The drained fuel can be reused after cleaning the tank, but it should be passed through a filter.

Flush the tank with 5 to 10 liter (1 to 2 gal.) clean fuel and drain again. Close drain valve (Fig. 545). Filter drained fuel and refill. Open the fuel shutoff valves (Fig. 544).

Attachment Hydraulics

Change Hydraulic Fluid

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil can cause burns.

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.

Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

------WARNING!--------

The hydraulic fluid tank is located at the right rear side of the upper carriage. An oil change should only be undertaken with warm hydraulic fluid.

Retract the rods of the stick and the bucket cylinder (attachment extended), lower the boom cylinders (retract) so that the attachment rests on the ground. The machine itself should stand on a level surface. Stop the engine.

Remove the drain hose from the tool box.

Connect the hose to the nose of the drain valve on the oil reservoir (drain valve above cut-out in lower side upper carriage. Fig. 546). Open drain valve and allow the oil to run into containers. Close drain valve and remove hose.

Loosen drain plug on the hydraulic pump (Fig. 547), allow oil to drain and retighten drain plug.

Fill with new hydraulic fluid only, through the return flow filter (4, Fig. 538).

Start the engine and operate all hydraulic functions until all cylinders are filled with oil. Check oil level. (See "Every 10 Service Hours or Daily".)

Swing Drive

Change Oil

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

Remove drain plug (2, Fig. 530) and allow to drain. Install the drain plug.

Remove the oil fill plug (1, Fig. 696) and the oil level plug (2, Fig. 696).

Fill with oil up to the edge of the oil level hole (2, Fig. 696).

Install the plugs and check for leaks.

NOTE: Change oil for the first time after 250 service hours.

Axle Stabilizers

Change Hydraulic Fluid

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

Remove drain plug and drain oil. Install plug.

Jack up the steering axle. Release the steering axle by turning the switch as shown in the cab photo to "Release the Axle Stabilizer." Unscrew the cap (2, Fig. 582) and the bleed screws (3, Fig. 582) at both stabilizer cylinders.

Press the two stabilizer cylinders down until they contact the axle, then fill the reservoir (2, fig. 582) and the two cylinders with oil. Bleed the stabilizer valve by pressing the pin inside the reservoir. The pin should be depressed until no more bubbles emerge from the reservoir. Fit the cap (2, Fig. 582). Screw on both blanking plugs (3, Fig. 582), but do not tighten.

Operate the switch in the cab repeatedly to pump oil from the reservoir into the cylinder circuit until bubble-free oil emerges at the blanking plugs of the cylinders. Make sure that the oil level in the reservoir does not drop excessively. Then tighten the plugs on the cylinders.

NOTE: If the cylinders show signs of failure to provide rigid support during machine service, pump with the switch until cylinders contact the axle again. Bleed if necessary.

If the steering axle is released and the axle jacked up, swinging the axle up and down presses the oil out of the cylinders for changing the oil.

Axle with Gearbox

Change Oil

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

Place machine on level ground. Change oil after warming up the gearbox by running the machine for a sufficient period of time. Clean dirt from and around the fill and drain plugs.

Transmission with Differential (Fig. 692, 784)

Remove oil fill plug from transmission (1, Fig. 784). Remove oil fill plug from differential (1, Fig. 692). Remove two oil drain plugs with seals (3, Fig. 692) (2, Fig. 784). Allow oil to drain. Install oil drain plugs (3, Fig. 692) (2, Fig. 784) with new seals if necessary. Install new transmission oil until the oil level reaches the edges of the two oil fill openings (1, Fig. 692) (1, Fig. 784). In order to fill the total volume of oil, use both openings alternately. Install oil fill plugs with new seals if necessary.

Steering Axle Differential

Change Oil

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

Park machine on level ground. Change oil after the oil in the transmission has been warmed after a longer period of operation. Clean oil plugs and area around them (Fig. 689). Remove (3, 689) and allow oil to drain. Install the drain plug. Remove the oil fill plug (1, 689). Add oil until it is at the edge of the oil level hole. Install the plug.

Steering Axle

Change Oil

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

Place machine on level ground. Change oil after warming up the gearbox by running the machine for a sufficient period of time. Clean dirt from and around the plugs.

Unscrew the oil fill plug (1, Fig. 692) and the oil drain plug (3, Fig. 692) and allow used oil to drain completely. Install the oil drain plug (3, Fig. 692) with new ring seal if necessary. Fill with new transmission oil to the lower edge of the oil filler hole (1, Fig. 692). Install oil fill plug with new ring seal if necessary.

NOTE: Change oil after 250 service hours for the first time only.

Steering Axle Hub Unit

Change Oil

------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

------WARNING!--------

Turn the two hubs until the combined oil fill drain plug 3, Fig. 691) is at the lowest point. Remove oil fill and drain plug (3, Fig. 691) with seal, and allow oil to drain. Turn hub until fill/drain lug opening is in horizontal position. Fill with oil into the hub until the level reaches the lower edge of the plug opening (1, Fig. 691). Install the oil drain fill plug.
